Treated Wood in Our Playgrounds, Swings, and Playhouses
At MASGAMES, we use outdoor-treated wood for the manufacture of our playgrounds, swings, playhouses, and garden furniture. This treatment ensures greater resistance to weathering, helping to prevent issues like rot and pests.
What is pressure treatment (autoclave) and how does it work?
The wood undergoes an autoclave impregnation process, where it is placed in a pressurized tank to absorb a solution of fungicides and insecticides. The process includes several stages:
-
Air is removed and the wood pores are opened.
-
The wood is immersed in a protective solution and pressurized up to 14 bar.
-
Excess liquid is recovered and filtered.
-
The wood is air-dried before use.
Thanks to this treatment, the wood we use in our products comes with a 10-year warranty against rot and pests.
Classification of treated wood
Based on its durability and outdoor resistance, treated wood is classified into five levels:
-
Level 1: For indoor use, with no exposure to moisture.
-
Level 2: For indoor use with occasional moisture exposure.
-
Level 3: For outdoor use under cover, without ground contact.
-
Level 4: For outdoor use, in direct contact with the ground or fresh water. This is the level we use in our products.
-
Level 5: For extreme environments, such as saltwater (piers and docks).
Wood origin and certification
We use pine wood from Northern Europe, sourced from renewable forests certified by organizations like FSC, ensuring sustainable and responsible forest management.
Recommended maintenance
Over time, wood exposed to sunlight and moisture may turn grey. To extend its lifespan, we recommend applying water-based lasur, a protective coating that penetrates the wood without forming a surface layer. It allows the wood to breathe while maintaining resistance to humidity and UV rays.
Frequently Asked Questions about Treated Wood
Why does the wood have mold when delivered?
Storing wood outdoors can generate moisture, and once packaged for shipping, it creates ideal conditions for mold. The solution is simple: just wipe the wood with a dry cloth. Once installed outdoors, the issue will disappear naturally.
Why do cracks appear in the wood?
Wood is a living material that expands and contracts with temperature and humidity changes. These cracks are normal and do not compromise the safety or durability of the product. If you prefer to avoid this effect, you can choose square wood or metal frame models.
